VeggieTales Review

When VeggieTales was just a glint in Phil Vischer’s eye, he believed that one day there would be Veggie-everything, and he got that pretty much right.  Not only are there feature length movies and made for home DVDs, but there are also stuffed animals, puzzles, and books.

When I was in the doctor’s office with our young fruits the other day, I saw one of the books that Big Idea was pushing out through Scholastic—they were in a “Values to Grow By” series, and being the VeggieTales fan that I am, I thought I’d sign up.

However, last night while I was looking online for where to sign up for the monthly subscription I found (alas!) that I could find no mention of them on the Scholastic pages.

Fortunately, I was able to find that I could get 7 on ebay, so I’ll be doing reviews of them soon…

As many of you may or may not be aware, the current owner of Big Idea, Inc—the company that makes VeggieTales—is in financial trouble and is selling off pieces in bankruptcy.  What you may not know is that the new owners are the old owners:

Way back in 2003, the assets of Big Idea Productions were bought by a company called Classic Media, run by two guys named John Engelman and Eric Ellenbogen.  In 2007 John and Eric sold Classic Media and the new Big Idea to a British company called Entertainment Rights

…Lloyds of London successfully sold off the assets of Entertainment Rights last week.  To whom?  John Engelman and Eric Ellenbogen.  The same two guys who owned Classic and Big Idea two years ago.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Bob and Larry from here, but it would be interesting (would it not) if this enabled them to get on JellyTelly or allowed Phil Vischer to step in and get them back?

So, my boss had an crazy idea the other day.  You know how VeggieTales recently did an episode that was based on Wizard of Oz?  Well, he wanted to write an script based on Alice in Wonderland and try to pitch it to Bob the Tomato and see what he thought.

So, he’s got me looking at Costumes on the Internet to see if I can find something that will fit someone like Petunia.

As you all know, I blog as well as have a day job.  It’s neat, in that I can express myself in words at night—enjoying the creative freedom that comes from that expression—while during the day I can solve complex mental puzzles—like the physics of how a vegetable can move things without hands, and what kind of soda a tomato would drink.
