Stay tuned…

Have you run out and got your copy of Save the Planets! yet? I have to admit that buying a set of shows that originally aired on television and are now being repackaged into a DVD to get me to buy really doesn’t appeal that much to me.

The Amazon reviews sing their praises, however:

If you’re new to 3-2-1 Penguins, they are wonderful. The animation is beautiful, with rich colors, and a three dimensional appearance. The penguins are hysterical, and the messages are meaningful, yet simple enough for a child to understand. Often a Bible verse is used to back up the moral of the story. They are done by the same people who do Veggie Tales, only now everybody has hands.

How about you? Is it something that you’d go out and buy (or you would like seen given away here as a contest), or is it something you’ll just catch on Saturday mornings?

From the Cover

“Take a little trippy down the Mighty Mississippi”!”

Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry’s life on the lazy river takes a turn for adventure when they help a stranger in need. With unexpected twists around every bend, they discover that while helping others may not be the easiest thing to do, it’s always the right thing to do.

Countertop

This new episode starts with Larry saying that he has to go to his book reading club, but when Bob shows up he finds that no one in the group actually reads the books, they only read the equivalent of Cliff’s Notes of the books. This launches him into his reimaging of Huck Finn.

Big River Rescue

This story starts out with George, a narrator that we haven’t seen since The Toy That Saved Christmas. This time he’s made up like Mark Twain, though many compare him with Colonel Sanders of KFC fame.

He’s going to tell us a story and help us get setting through out the show. This includes showing us where the Mississippi river is, instructing us about homesteading, and explaining why a tax service in this time period isn’t very helpful since the income tax wasn’t passed yet.

Very quickly we meet Little Jimmy, who was framed for stealing turkey jurky and is having to help out Mr. Nezzar who’s returned to his full villain form.

Jimmy escapes, and Tom and Huck soon realize that they’ll have to help him.

The Biscuit of Zazzamarandabo

This is quite the frolicking tune that is fun to hear, but there’s not really much of a point—except for the part where they find that Jimmy and Jerry have eaten a biscuit, but it’s not the right one.

Besides, who but Archibald can say the name correctly?

Back to the Show…

Tom and Huck find that Mr. Nezzar has infiltrated even babies to alert him when Little Jimmy shows up. They end up going further down the river to put him on a train, but Huck realizes that he should go all the way to St. Louis with him to make sure he gets there safely.

Especially when Jimmy and Jerry show up with names that are suspicious.

Tom decides not to go on the boat, but is taught a lesson about caring for others when his fishing pole is broken and the narrator could have helped.

Once in St. Louis, Mr. Nezzar gives Huck the slip and goes to get Jimmy. Tom appears out of nowhere to help Huck, exposes Mr. Nezzar as the real thief, and Jimmy and his mom are reunited.

Closing Countertop

The lesson is that not helping is the same as hurting. That, and that the best part about book clubs is the food.

From the Cover:

Have you ever felt too small to do a really big job? That’s what a little shepherd boy named Dave feels when his big brothers head off to defend their country, leaving Dave behind with the sheep. “Big people do big things, and little people do little things,”they tell him. They’re in for a surprise, however, when they find out their foe is much bigger than they thought! This telling of the classic biblical story of David and Goliath teaches kids that “with God, all things are possible.” It makes no difference whether you’re 9-feet tall or 2-feet tall — with God’s help, even little guys can do big things!

Larry Boy

This countertop is the first we get introduced to Larry Boy. Larry shows up on the counter in his Larry Boy costume and proceeds to get stuck to all sorts of things with his super suction plunger ears. He needs Bob in order to get free.

Bob tries to tell him that he doesn’t need to be a super hero to do big things for God…

Dave and the Giant Pickle

Dave and his brothers are out watching sheep. These sheep need to be watched because they tip over– even more so when his brothers want to tease him. (There’s even a reference here to Are You My Neighbor?– did you catch it?)

When Pa Grape shows up saying that the Philistines are attacking the Israelites Bob has to explain the difference between the Philistines and the Philippines. After doing that, we see Dave (Junior Asparagus) is left out of going to fight Goliath because of his size.

I Love My Lips

This silly song sees Archibald as a psychiatrist trying to help Larry out. Larry loves his lips. And there are a few things in this silly song to watch for. There’s a drawing of Mike Nawrocki, and some pictures of Flibber-o-loo up in the background.

Dave and the Giant Pickle

Dave goes to see King Saul (Archibald Asparagus) and decides to fight Goliath– a great big pickle. Which is even funnier because he’s related to a bunch of little french peas! Dave uses one stone and a sling (taking off his head to whirl the sling) and knocks Goliath down before riding a sheep off into the sunset.

Countertop

Bob wraps it all up saying that Larry can pretend to be a superhero as long as he realizes that plain old Larry is pretty special. Larry ends up stuck to the camera lens as the credits roll.
