What I Learned from Esther: The Girl Who Became Queen

One of the things that first hit me watching VeggieTales – Esther, the Girl Who Became Queen was the relative age of Esther.  For some reason, I believe that I always thought of Esther being an adult, but that was not necessarily the case.  We know that Mary was a teen when she married Joseph, so it’s not that inconceivable that Esther was young.

What makes this even more a possibility was that they were trying to get the most beautiful girls in the kingdom– and I’m sure that they would want the younger girls– and virginity and being not married would have been prized.

Why is this important?  Because it would have added to the fact that she had to have faith in the midst of a lot of things changing in her life.  We can expect an adult to have the faith that was demonstrated by walking into the king’s court yard, but for her to have it as a younger lady– well that’s saying something.

How many teens do you know today that stand up for the right thing?  Is that how you’re training your young vegetables?

Do You Need a Computer Tech?

As good as I think I am with computers, there are times when even I don’t know what to do.  Fortunately for me, I have a group of people that I know and trust to be able to give me good advice about how to do everything from buy new equipment to fix nagging problems with the speed of my computer.

What do you do when you have computer trouble?  If you don’t have a friend or someone you can trust, you should check out Fast-teks.  They offer a full range of solutions for both your home system or your business needs.  They can help you do anything from hooking up a home wireless network to the more complex stuff like getting rid of all that spyware that’s plugging up your system.

So, take it from me, Peter Plum, you want to make sure that if you want to keep your computer it tip top shape and running well, make sure that you get a good friend (some other fruit or vegetable) or find a great place like Fast-teks to help you get the job done right!

Why The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything Poses a Problem

I’m not sure what the current total as far as viewers for the new movie, but when I last checked it did not seem to be doing as well as Jonah, and I have a hunch as to why.

VeggieTales has an unique problem– one that other cartoons do not have– in its original audience base.  It made it big by being a Christian alternative to other cartoons, distributed via Christian bookstores on videocassette.  Its apex was Jonah– a Bible story told by Vegetables that appealed to its base.

You see, for as much time as Phil Vischer or I spend telling everyone that VeggieTales is more than just Bible stories (it’s about half Bible stories half parodies), that’s not the impression of those that actually buy the videos.  The Christian base believes that it is mostly Bible stories (if not all Bible stories) even if they’ve seen the episodes that mimic Gilligan’s Island, Indiana Jones, or Rocky.

VeggieTales: The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything – The Controversy

****

It’s still swirling.  I’m subscribed to this forum that talks about VeggieTales and one poster had this to say:

Having said that, I also want to take this opportunity to air my
grievances about the Pirates. Okay, they were funny with the Silly
Song. The Countdown was cool. But seriously, didn’t we just have a
Pirates movie a few years ago? Or am I imagining things? (That’s
sarcasm, by the way, but I’m partially serious too. The Pirates took
up at least 60-75% of ‘Jonah’, I think)
