Ukulele Karaoke with Bob

Thanks for stopping by VeggieTales Review! Whether you're a fruit, a vegetable or something else, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

The Silly Song for Gideon Tuba Warrior is the first one that features Bob starring in a Silly Song– though he doesn’t start out wanting to do it at all, and then he ends up getting his script cut up and gives up.  Poor Bob…

Lessons Learned from Gideon, Tuba Warrior

As with every VeggieTales show there’s a lesson that they want you to learn and usually many sub-lessons that I find while watching.  Gideon Tuba Warrior is no different.

The lesson that VeggieTales wants you to get is “A Lesson in Trusting God.”  That’s shown by the fact that no matter how big the Midianites were and how small the army that Gideon had to face them God was still there and was still in control.  Therefore they showed the differences in strength, and that God can do all things.

The lesson that I found interesting was hidden in the interaction between the Angel of the Lord and Gideon.  In this telling of the story, Gideon (Larry) is fine with the fact that the Angel is an Angel (it’s really evident in the Judges version in that Gideon wants to make an offering to the Angel).  But he then has a problem when the Angel asks him to do something.

And that is the case a lot of the times with us…  We know that we should be doing something, we know it’s what the Lord commands, but we want to beg God to do something for us in return, or question His ability to provide.  We fail in that we don’t step out in faith to do what we know we should and I think that a key component is that we acknowledge that He is God, but we don’t relate properly to Him.  Our understanding of who God is is only mental, it’s not experiential.

So, take this lesson from Gideon– learn who God is through walking with Him, and trust that He will do what He says He will do.

Next VeggieTales DVD: Huckleberry Larry

Anyone check out the preview for the new Huckleberry Larry that’s supposed to be out Spring 2008?

Phil Vischer mentioned on his blog that he’s been in a parody mood when writing his latest VeggieTales episodes– and it shows!  The last three that he’s written were:

  • Lord of the Beans
  • Wizard of Has
  • and now Huckleberry Larry

This one, of course, a take off of Huck Finn, with no tie in to a Biblical story.  It appears that it will be the whole episode, and not a short– which is better in terms of story building.  I just hope that they’ll have a better silly song this time around!

How to Find Extra VeggieTales Content

Big Idea hides extra content on every DVD that they make.  And, fortunately for us, this content is fairly easy to find if you’re patient.  If you’re not, simply go get some kind of DVD ripping software and scan through the tracks and find the things yourself!

Front Page

Some of the opening pages are more interactive than others.  If you let the front page play you’ll likely to be treated to a funny introduction on a given topic.  If there’s a way to see more, page through all of them– for they’re quite amusing.

Easter Eggs

Sometimes these are obvious, sometimes they are not.  The easiest way to find some of the extra content on the VeggieTales DVDs is to use the right and left arrows on your DVD remote control rather than using the up and down.  You’ll see the cursor move somewhere off the menu, and if you click on this you’ll get the extra content.

Make sure to explore all of the pages to see all the goodies!

Trivia Fun

Trivia may seem like a waste of time, but there can be some truly great stuff hiding at the end while having a perfect score.  For example, at the end of Snoodle’s Tale is a rendition of the Silly Song, Sport Utility Vehicle, where you can actually see the people voicing Larry and his female counterpart for the song– very amusing.

Have you found some interesting VeggieTales content that you’d like to share?
